Is there a federal age-verification law?
There is no federal age-verification law for porn sites in the US; the requirements come from state laws. The US Supreme Court upheld Texas's law in Free Speech Coalition v. Paxton (June 27, 2025), applying intermediate scrutiny, which cleared the way for more states to pass similar laws. In Congress, the House passed the KIDS Act on June 29, 2026, which includes the SCREEN Act's age-verification requirement for porn sites; it awaits action in the Senate Commerce Committee.

- SCREEN Act (Shielding Children's Retinas from Egregious Exposure on the Net Act). Would require websites where more than one-third of the material is sexual material harmful to minors to use technology verification measures to keep minors out within a year of enactment, with self-declaration not enough, no government ID required and data kept to what is strictly necessary, enforced by the FTC. passed the House on 29 June 2026 (267–117) as Title I of the KIDS Act (H.R. 7757), which was referred to the Senate Commerce Committee on 13 July 2026; the standalone S. 737 has had no action since referral in February 2025
- App Store Accountability Act. Would require app stores to verify each user's age category with a commercially available method and, for minors, link the account to a parent and obtain verifiable parental consent before downloads or purchases, sharing age-category data with app developers.
